Cleaning
Regardless of the type of material your new windows are made of, cleaning is the first and the easiest maintenance tip. Get a soft cloth to clean the dust on the frames and other parts of the windows. Ensure that you do not use a hard or harsh material as it can scratch your windows. For wood frames, follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions and avoid soaking the finish or leaving moisture on the surface. -
Cleaning the Glass
Dirty glass reduces the beauty and visibility of windows. Due to exposure to the elements, dust quickly settles on the glass of windows. Get a soft cloth, mild cleaners, and warm water to clean your windows. This will leave them sparkling clean and look like new windows with better outdoor visibility. -
Cleaning the Tracks
When the tracks of your windows are dirty and filled with dust and debris, windows can easily get stuck and become difficult to operate. As a result, you should ensure to clean the window track regularly to prevent your windows from requiring force to operate. Clean tracks help the sash close properly. If drafts remain, have the seals, alignment and hardware checked. -
Keep Sealing in Place
Inspect weatherstripping and perimeter sealant for damage. Worn weatherstripping may need a compatible replacement, while failed perimeter caulking needs the correct preparation and sealant. Do not apply caulk to moving parts or drainage openings. -
Insulation of your Windows
Check for drafts around the frame and sash. Have unexplained gaps assessed before filling them: drainage and weep openings must remain clear. Use only materials and methods suitable for the window system.
