A picture window is a fixed window that does not open. Instead, it creates a clear glass area for natural light and outdoor views. As a result, this style works well where the room already has another source of ventilation.
Falcon WD supplies and installs custom vinyl picture windows across the GTA and selected Ontario communities. First, we review the opening and the surrounding window layout. Then we order the frame, glass, colour and installation details listed in your quote.
The insulated glass unit stays sealed inside a non-operable frame. Therefore, the window has no crank, hinges, sash locks or moving screen.
Frame depth, glass position, exterior profile and trim details vary by manufacturer. However, Falcon WD confirms the selected product and installation method before ordering.
A fixed glass area can bring more daylight into living rooms, dining rooms, stairwells and other spaces. Therefore, picture windows often suit rooms where light and view matter more than ventilation.
Picture windows do not need operating hardware across the sash. As a result, they can provide a simple, open-looking view within the limits of the selected frame.
There is no crank, hinge or sliding mechanism to operate. Therefore, routine care usually focuses on the glass, frame, seals and exterior finishing.
Picture windows can often sit beside compatible casement, awning, hung or slider units. For example, a fixed centre section can pair with opening windows when the product line allows that layout.
Manufacturers offer different options by frame series, size and glass weight. Therefore, the written quote should name the exact product and glass package.
In addition, some exact frame-and-glass combinations carry ENERGY STAR certification. However, the picture window name alone does not prove certification. We must confirm the chosen model, size and glass package.
| Window style | Does it open? | Typical frame approach | Common reason to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Picture window | No | Fixed profile with broad glass area | Natural light and an unobstructed view |
| Fixed casement | No | Profile designed to coordinate with casements | Match nearby operable casement windows |
| Operable casement | Yes | Hinged sash and frame | Ventilation through an outward-opening sash |
| Slider window | Yes | Horizontal track and moving sash | Ventilation without an outward swing |

Factories build picture windows to custom dimensions. However, glass size, frame strength, reinforcement, shipping and installation limits affect the final design. Therefore, Falcon WD confirms all measurements before production.
Before we quote the work, we check the old frame, sill, jamb depth and exterior finish. Then we select the correct installation method. A retrofit installation keeps more of the old frame, while full-frame replacement removes it.
Combination windows need compatible frame depths, mullions, colours and glass heights. Therefore, Falcon WD reviews the complete assembly instead of treating every section as an unrelated window.
A picture window does not provide ventilation because it does not open. For the same reason, it normally does not need a screen. The room may require another operable window or another approved source of ventilation.
A picture window also cannot provide a window egress opening. For bedrooms, basements or other spaces with escape requirements, the project review must include a suitable operable opening and the rules that apply to that room.
Several choices affect the price. For example, width, height, glass, colour, grids, mullions, installation method, exterior capping and repair work can change the total.
To start, send us the project address, rough sizes and clear photos from inside and outside. After that, we can review the likely scope. We will still confirm final measurements before ordering.
A picture window is a fixed, non-operable window. It provides natural light and an outdoor view but does not open for ventilation.
Both styles stay closed. A fixed casement usually follows the frame profile of operable casements, while a picture window often uses a simpler fixed profile with different sightlines.
No screen is normally required because the window does not open. Screens may appear on nearby operable units in a combination.
Many product lines offer triple-pane glass. However, the factory must confirm the exact size, glass weight and frame limits before ordering.
Yes. Picture windows can often be combined with compatible casement, awning, hung or slider units. The exact layout depends on the selected product line and size limits.
No. A picture window does not open. Choose a compatible operable window where the room needs ventilation.
No. Because it does not open, a picture window cannot provide the clear opening needed for window egress.
Production usually takes about three to four weeks after final measurement and deposit. Installation time depends on the number of windows and the condition of each opening.
Falcon WD can replace one picture window or include this style in a larger home project. In either case, the written quote will list the product, glass, installation work and finish details.
